1. Who we are
Hourgap is a private, invite-only app for seeing friends' cities and local times. In this policy, “Hourgap,” “we,” and “us” refer to the independent developer operating the Hourgap service.
For privacy questions or requests, use our support page and choose Privacy or data request.
2. Information we collect
Account information
- Your email address and an internal user ID when you sign in with an email link, Google, or Apple.
- Authentication tokens stored on your device so you can stay signed in.
- Basic security and delivery records produced by our authentication and infrastructure providers, such as timestamps, IP address, and request metadata.
Profile and location information
- Your display name, profile color, and optional profile photo.
- The city, region, country, time-zone identifier, and last-updated time you choose to share.
- If you use automatic city detection, your device reads approximate coordinates and asks the operating system to turn them into a place name. Hourgap does not save or send those coordinates to our servers.
- If you search for a city manually, the search text is sent through our server to Google Maps Platform for matching cities and time-zone information.
Room information
- Room names, icons, invite codes, room settings, membership, roles, creator, and join time.
- A person with a valid invite code can preview the room name, icon, and member count before joining.
Support information
If you contact us, we receive the name, email address, topic, message, and any information you choose to include. We also receive ordinary request metadata needed to operate and secure the website.
3. How we use information
- Authenticate you and maintain your account.
- Create and operate private rooms, invitations, profiles, city displays, and local-time calculations.
- Show room members the profile and place information you chose to share.
- Respond to support, privacy, and safety requests.
- Protect the service, prevent misuse, diagnose failures, and comply with legal obligations.
Hourgap does not use your information for targeted advertising, does not sell personal information, and currently does not include advertising, analytics, or third-party crash-reporting SDKs.
4. Who can see your information
- People in your rooms can see your display name, profile color or photo, city, country, time zone, and current local time. They do not receive your coordinates or street address.
- Profile photos are stored in a private Supabase Storage bucket. Only authorized room members can request a short-lived signed image URL. A previously issued URL may remain usable until it expires, currently for up to about 10 minutes.
- Room owners can manage membership, lock a room to new joins, remove members, and delete the room.
5. Service providers
We use service providers only to run Hourgap. They process information under their own terms and privacy commitments:
- Supabase for authentication, database, server functions, and private profile-photo storage.
- Apple and Google platform services for sign-in and, when you permit it, on-device conversion of coordinates into a place name.
- Google Maps Platform for city-search suggestions and time-zone lookup. It receives the city search text forwarded by our server, not your Hourgap account ID.
- Resend for sign-in and support email delivery.
- Website hosting, content-delivery, and security providers for serving hourgap.app and protecting it from abuse.
These providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. We use provider security controls and limit the information we send to what is needed for the service.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep account, profile, room, and membership information while your account is active. Support correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, maintain necessary records, and protect the service. Operational logs and backups may remain for limited periods under provider retention schedules.
You can delete your account inside Hourgap from Profile → Delete account. This removes your authentication account, profile, memberships, and profile-photo files. A room you own is transferred to the longest-standing remaining member; a room with no other members is deleted. See the account deletion guide.
7. Your choices and rights
- Edit your display name, profile photo, profile color, or city in the app.
- Deny or turn off location permission and choose a city manually.
- Leave a room or delete your account.
- Ask to access, correct, or delete information, or object to certain processing, through the support page. Rights vary by location.
8. Security
We use access controls, encrypted network connections, database row-level security, private photo storage, and short-lived signed photo links. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
Hourgap is not intended for anyone under 14. You must also be old enough to consent to data processing where you live. If local law requires consent from a parent or guardian, you may use Hourgap only with that consent. If you believe a child provided information improperly, contact us through the support page.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, our providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the new version here and update the date above. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide additional notice when reasonably possible.
